About the Broad Effect
The Broad Effect is a Portland-based, woman-owned consultancy that prioritizes the support of women and other underrepresented groups.
Using the art of Applied Improvisation to practice curiosity, embrace creativity, and foster positivity and resilience, we aim to create a more equitable and inclusive world

“Do I have to be funny?”
Improv is an (often comedic) artform where all of the action, dialogue, story, and characters are created spontaneously by the performers, on stage, without a script or a plan. Think “Whose Line is it Anyway?”
Applied improvisation is the use of improvisational techniques and principles in non-theatrical settings for purposes such as enhancing creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and personal development. It involves utilizing the spontaneity, adaptability, and collaborative skills inherent in improvisational theater to address real-world challenges and opportunities. Think “Oh yes, I do that everyday, all day long!”
So, in short…no, you don’t have to be funny.
(but no one will be mad if you are)
